Proverbs 1:5 “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands, obtain guidance”
On a recent trip to Badin Lake, we found ourselves with no stripers volunteering themselves to jump in our cooler for the ride home. You might say this trip was a ‘skunkfest.’ But there were lessons to be learned. We could see the bait balls, but it was obvious the fish were not feeding. The barometric pressure had just shot up very quickly, and these fish were plastered to the bottom of the lake, and obviously did not have lunch on their brain. Some days you are better off calling it a day early, and heading home when conditions are not right. Or changing tactics or even target species.
Truly, every trip on the water can be a lesson learned. And that is what is important- reflecting afterwards, not allowing the lesson that was taught to escape without its intended effect. Every situation a fisherman finds himself in is an opportunity to learn: what works, what doesn’t. What not to do again. Like life, we should learn from our mistakes, and pay attention to the lessons God allows us to be taught, hard things we can learn, even in our failures.
