Fishing Waypoint Installation Instructions

Thank you for purchasing a Brilliant Fishing NC waypoint microSD card! Your card already contains the fishing waypoint files for the area you purchased.

Find your chartplotter brand below and follow its installation directions. Menu names and supported file formats vary by model and software version.

Before You Begin

  • Back up your existing waypoints, routes, and tracks to a separate card before importing new data.
  • Do not format or erase your purchased card. It is already loaded with your files.
  • If your unit has a full-size SD slot, use a microSD-to-SD adapter. An adapter is not included.
  • If your card contains several regional files, start by importing the area you want. Existing waypoints count toward your unit’s storage limit.
  • Do not overwrite or reformat a Navionics, C-MAP, LakeMaster, LakeVü, BlueChart, or other mapping card.
  • Leave the card inserted until the transfer has finished.

Garmin

Use the file ending in .gpx on GPX-compatible models.

  1. Power on the chartplotter and allow it to finish starting, then insert your card.
  2. Open User Data or Nav Info, then look for Manage Data → Data Transfer. Some models use Where To? → Manage User Data.
  3. If a File Type option appears, select GPX.
  4. Choose Merge from Card (*see note below on Merge or Replace From)
  5. Select the correct card slot and the regional .gpx file you want to load.
  6. Allow the import to finish, then check the waypoint list and chart.

Important: Choose Merge from Card to preserve your existing data. Replace from Card can overwrite the waypoints, routes, and tracks already stored in your unit.

If the file does not appear, first check that the file type is set to GPX. Some Garmin models require the GPX file inside a Garmin/GPX folder on the card. If you move it using a computer, keep only one copy of that file on the card and properly eject the card afterward.

Older Garmin models may require ADM conversion. Simply renaming a GPX file does not convert it. Contact us with your exact model if you need assistance.

Lowrance

Use the file ending in .gpx on models that support GPX imports.

  1. Power on the unit and insert your card.
  2. Press Pages or Home, then open Files, Storage, or Settings → Storage.
  3. Browse the correct memory-card slot.
  4. Select the regional .gpx file and choose Import.
  5. If asked whether to add, merge, or replace data, choose Add or Merge to keep your existing waypoints.
  6. Wait for the transfer to finish, then check the waypoint list and chart.

Some older models use Waypoints, Routes, Trails → Menu → Load from Card.

If your model does not recognize GPX files, contact us with the exact model number. A different format may be required.

Simrad

Use the file ending in .gpx on models that support GPX imports.

  1. Power on the unit and insert your card.
  2. From Home or Pages, open Files or Storage.
  3. Select the correct memory-card slot.
  4. Choose the regional .gpx file and select Import.
  5. If offered a choice, select Add or Merge to preserve your saved waypoints.
  6. Wait for the transfer to finish, then check the waypoint list and chart.

If your unit does not have a Files or Storage option, or does not recognize the GPX file, email us your exact model. Import support differs between models.

Furuno

Check your model’s supported import format first. Many newer models accept GPX; other models require different preparation.

  1. Insert your card.
  2. Look under Home, Menu, or Settings for Files or User Data.
  3. Choose Import Points & Routes, Routes/Points, or the equivalent waypoint-import option.
  4. Select the regional .gpx file if your model supports GPX.
  5. Confirm the import and wait for it to finish.
  6. Check several waypoint names and locations.

Do not use a settings restore, factory reset, or system-configuration import when loading fishing waypoints.

CSV note: The supplied CSV is a reference spreadsheet. Furuno CSV imports may require a specific column layout, so the supplied CSV is not guaranteed to load directly. Contact us with your exact model if you need a different format.

Changing a file’s extension does not convert its contents.

Humminbird

The required file type depends on your model family.

HELIX and Legacy Models

HELIX and many older Humminbird models commonly require HWR navigation data rather than a direct GPX import.

Email brilliantfishingnc@gmail.com with your exact model and generation before loading. We can provide the appropriate file and directions. HWR files are normally supplied by request.

If we have already provided an HWR file or a MATRIX folder on your card, follow the model-specific directions supplied with it.

APEX, XPLORE, SOLIX, and ONIX

These model families use GPX navigation files.

  1. Back up the navigation data already stored in your unit.
  2. Insert your purchased card and open Home.
  3. Look for My Data → Import Nav Data. Earlier software may use a Files widget or another navigation-data option.
  4. Select the regional .gpx file.
  5. Confirm the import and wait for completion.
  6. Check the waypoint list and chart.

If your menu differs or the GPX file is not recognized, email us your exact model and software version.

Raymarine

Use the file ending in .gpx on models that support GPX user-data imports.

  1. Power on the display and insert your card.
  2. Open Home → My Data → Import/export.
  3. Choose Import from Card. Some older software calls this Retrieve Data.
  4. Browse the card and select the regional .gpx file.
  5. Follow the import prompts and wait for completion.
  6. Check the waypoint list and chart.

Older models may require conversion. Contact us if your unit does not recognize GPX files.

After Importing

Open your waypoint list and check several names. Then zoom the chart to the fishing area you purchased, including its offshore waters, and make sure the waypoint display layer is turned on.

Once the import is complete, remove the card according to your unit’s instructions. The imported waypoints are stored in the chartplotter. Keep your purchased card as a backup.

Troubleshooting

The file does not appear

  • Confirm that you selected the correct card slot.
  • Choose the normal file ending in .gpx, rather than KMZ, CSV, or ZIP.
  • If you see a file beginning with ._, choose the corresponding file without that prefix.
  • Check your model’s file-type setting and required folder location.
  • If you copied or moved files using a computer, properly eject the card before removing it.

The card is not recognized

Reinsert the card, restart the unit, and check any adapter. Card size and formatting requirements vary by model.

If another card is needed, copy the waypoint file to a separate, compatible blank card. Many units accept FAT32 cards of 32 GB or smaller, but older models may require smaller cards.

Do not format your purchased card or a mapping card.

The import stops or says memory is full

Existing waypoints count toward your unit’s capacity. Try a smaller regional file if one is supplied, or contact us about a smaller export.

Back up your saved data before deleting anything. Repeated imports may create duplicates on some units.

The import finished, but no spots appear

Check the waypoint list, turn on waypoint display, and zoom to the purchased fishing region. The spots may be outside the area currently shown on your chart.

Names or symbols look different

Chartplotters may shorten names or substitute their own symbols. Check several coordinates to confirm the spots loaded in the expected locations.

What Are the Other Files For?

  • GPX: Waypoint data for compatible chartplotters.
  • KMZ: View the fishing spots in Google Earth.
  • CSV: View, sort, or filter the coordinates in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.
  • HWR: Navigation data for compatible Humminbird models, only supplied by request.

These formats generally contain the same fishing spots. You do not need to import every format.

Important Reminders

This product contains fishing waypoints, not navigation charts. Coordinates are reference points and do not replace current charts, depth soundings, sonar, weather awareness, or safe seamanship.

Use your exact model’s owner manual for its supported card sizes, file formats, waypoint limits, and import procedures.

Waypoint data is licensed to one purchaser for one vessel at a time, with one private backup. Sharing, resale, redistribution, or commercial use requires prior written permission from Brilliant Fishing NC.

Enjoy your new fishing spots—and tight lines!
