A starting point for your fishing

New to the area, running a new boat, or looking to expand your existing numbers? This collection gives you a broad base of public fishing references to explore and build on with your own discoveries.

These are publicly documented locations rather than private charter-captain numbers or secret fishing spots. There is no subscription and no recurring fee.

How the data was compiled

Brilliant Fishing NC compiled these waypoints from publicly available government records and independent boater and diver compilations, then cleaned, standardized, cross-referenced, and reviewed them. Duplicate and conflicting entries were consolidated where practical.

The positions have not all been independently surveyed by Brilliant Fishing NC. Some mark approximate locations or general fishing areas.

Looking for more coverage?

Heading south? Our Cape Fear & Southern Beaches collection picks up around Surf City and continues to the South Carolina state line. Heading north, coverage continues into Virginia. Visit BrilliantFishingNC.com or contact us for available collections.

Buying both NC regional sets?

This northern set has significant geographic overlap near Topsail Island with our Cape Fear & Southern Beaches set. Expect many duplicate waypoints if you purchase both regional collections.

For the whole coast in one combined collection, our Full North Carolina Coast set includes every waypoint from both regional sets, with shared overlap counted only once.

Ready to install or go fishing?

Use our installation page for directions for your chartplotter brand. Our free NC offshore fishing guide explains what is typically caught at many common spots and when to target those species.

File formats & chartplotter setup

The collection is supplied in three formats: GPX for chartplotter imports, KMZ for viewing in Google Earth, and CSV for spreadsheet or reference use.

Import requirements vary by chartplotter model. Follow the installation directions for your Garmin, Lowrance, Simrad, Furuno, or Humminbird unit, including any model-specific conversion steps.

Navigation notice: These waypoints are a fishing reference aid, not a substitute for official navigation charts. Conditions, obstructions, and charted depths change. Cross-reference with current NOAA charts and use prudent seamanship.
